The Republic of Zimbabwe is a country located in southern Africa, with its capital at Harare. Zimbabwe was recognized as the replacement of Rhodesia on 18 April 1980 following the Rhodesian Bush War, which saw the black majority population overthrow the white minority government. Robert Mugabe has been the head of state of Zimbabwe since 1980, and Zimbabwe was ruled as a one-party socialist state by the Zimbabwe African National Union (ZANU) for many years. Zimbabwe has 12,970,000 people, with the average life expectancy being 56 years. 70% of Zimbabweans are Christian, 1% Muslim, and 29% other religions, including animism.
