Zhou Yu (?-192 AD) was the Inspector of Yu Province under Yuan Shao.
Biography[]
Zhou Yu was from Kuaiji, Yang Province. He was the brother of Zhou Ang and Zhou Xin.
In 189 AD he raised 2,000 troops to aid Cao Cao in the anti-Dong Zhuo coalition, serving as an adviser to him before transferring to Yuan Shao's camp.
As revenge for Yuan Shu calling him a "family slave" and "not a true member of the Yuan clan" out of jealousy for his prestige, Yuan Shao appointed Zhou Yu as the Inspector of Yu Province in the place of Yuan Shu's vassal, Sun Jian.
In 191 AD, he defeated Sun Jian at the Battle of Yangcheng and that killed his ally, Gongsun Yue, but Sun Jian later counterattacked and that routed him.
He went to aid Zhou Ang against Yuan Shu in Jiujiang in 192 AD, but they were defeated, and Zhou Yu was slain by Xu Gong after returned to his hometown of Kuaiji.
