Zhang Yan (?-?) was the leader of the Black Mountain Bandits. After the death of Qing Niujiao, he took over the group of 100,000 former Yellow Turbans and fought Yuan Shao at Mt. Lu Chang in 193. Zhang Yan was forced to submit to Yuan Shao after the Battle of Chang Shan, and in 205 AD, he joined Cao Cao after the defeat of Yuan Tan with his whole army.
