
Zhang Ren (?-214) was an officer of Liu Zhang. He killed Liu Bei's officer Pang Tong at Luo Feng Po. He was later captured but refused to submit to Liu Bei, saying "A man cannot serve two masters." He chose death.
Biography[]
Zhang Ren served as a general of the Prefect of Yi Province, Liu Zhang, and in 212-214 AD, he commanded some of Liu Zhang's forces against the invading army of Liu Bei. At Luo Feng Po, he ambushed Liu Bei's strategist Pang Tong, mistaking him for Liu Bei. His crossbowmen mortally wounded Pang Tong, but Pang Tong survived to oversee the capture of Luo Castle. At the end of the Battle of Yi Province, Zhang Ren was forced to surrender. He refused to serve Liu Bei, and he chose execution.
