Zeuxis the Drunken Bard (died 431 BC) was the Athenian puppet leader of Megaris in 431 BC. He was assassinated by the mercenary Kassandra.
Biography[]
According to Zeuxis the Drunken Bard, there could be no love, life, or alliance without first having wine. It is said that he blessed his friends as Dionysus might, with a drunken song and a satisfying hangover. He briefly came to power following the Athenian recapture of the city from Sparta during the Megara Campaign, and his general Menekrates the Smart successfully defended the city against a Spartan reconquest attempt with help from the mercenary Kassandra. However, Kassandra assassinated Zeuxis at his tent before leaving Megaris, again throwing the city-state into chaos.
