Zamil Nouri

Zamil Nouri (14 June 1945-12 October 1989) was a leader of the Muslim Brotherhood in Syria.

Biography[]

Zamil Nouri was born on 14 June 1945 in Saraqib, Idlib Governorate, Syria to a Sunni Muslim Arab family. Nouri became an imam after being educated in Iraq, and he joined the Muslim Brotherhood to oppose the secular government of Hafez al-Assad during the 1979-1982 Islamist uprising in Syria. He went into exile in West Germany with the leadership of the Muslim Brotherhood, and Hafez al-Assad sent intelligence agents to assassinate Nouri. On 12 October 1989, his car exploded in West Berlin, killing him.
