Yury Yevdokimov

Yury Alexeyevich Yevdokimov (10 December 1945-) was the Governor of Murmansk Oblast from 1997 to 2009, preceding Dmitry Dmitriyenko. He was a member of the United Russia party.

Biography[]

Yury Alexeyevich Yevdokimov was born in Klevan, Rivne Oblast, Ukrainian SSR, Soviet Union on 10 December 1945, and from 1963 to 1970 he worked as an electrician, an equipment repairman, and a locomotive repair plant assembler. In 1970, he graduated from the Dnepropetrovsk Civil Engineering Institute with a degree in mechanical engineering, and he worked as a senior engineer in the Soviet Army from 1972 to 1974. From 1974 to 1984, he served as Second Secretary of the Kirov City Committee of the CPSU. In 1984, he graduated from the Leningrad Higher Party School, and he served as the head of the Department of Construction and Secretary of the Murmansk Regional Committee of the CPSU from 1984 to 1990. After the Dissolution of the Soviet Union, he worked for financial institutions, and he became a member of the conservative United Russia party. From 1997 to 2009, he served as Governor of Murmansk Oblast, and the Kremlin forced him to resign after he accused President Dmitry Medvedev of fooling around abroad and betraying Arctic interests.
