Yuriy Ilyich Prylypko (11 August 1960-7 March 2022) was a Ukrainian politician who served as Mayor of Hostomel from 25 October 2015 to 7 March 2022, when he was killed in action during the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine.
Biography[]
Yuriy Ilyich Prylypko was born in Hostomel, Kyiv Oblast, Ukrainian SSR, Soviet Union in 1960, and he served in the Group of Soviet Forces in Germany from 1978 to 1980 before working as a driver during the 1980s and 1990s and becoming a small business owner following the Dissolution of the Soviet Union. He served on the Irpin City Council for three terms as a member of the Party of Regions, and he went on to serve as Mayor of Hostomel from 2015 to 2022 (as a self-nominated candidate); in 2021, he was accused of corruption and embezzlement. On 7 March 2022, he was shot by Russian Army troops during the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine, having allegedly attempted to attack Russian soldiers.
