Yukio Terada (1964-2006), born Kim Dae-jin, was a Korean-Japanese organized crime boss who, after being involved with the Jingweon Mafia during his youth, rose to serve as Chief of Headquarters of the Omi Alliance and ultimately as Fifth Chairman of the Tojo-kai from 2005 to 2006. As one of two survivors of the Dojima-gumi's 1980 massacre of the Jingweon Mafia, Terada bore with him a vengeance against the yakuza even as he became a leading godfather of Japanese organized crime, and he purposefully weakened the Tojo-kai while serving as its chairman, ultimately provoking a war between the Tojo-kai and the Omi Alliance after faking his own death.
Biography[]
Kim Dae-jin was born in Tokyo, Japan in 1964 to a family of Zainichi Koreans, and he became involved in the Jingweon Mafia as a teenager. On 25 December 1980, he and Ji Yeong-min became the only two surviving members of the Jingweon Mafia after yakuza boss Sohei Dojima sent Futoshi Shimano and Shintaro Kazama to wipe out the Korean syndicate on Christmas Day. Kazama spared Kim and Ji, but he warned them to leave Kabukicho and never return. After the event, Kim acquired Japanese citizenship and changed his name to the Japanese "Yukio Terada", and, with Kazama's help, Terada became a member of the Omi Alliance under the protection of Jin Goda. By 2005, Terada rose to be the Omi Alliance's Chief of Headquarters, and he also became oath brothers with fellow Omi Alliance patriarch Ryo Takashima of the Takashima-gumi.
Tojo-kai civil war of 2005[]
Terada continued to be a faithful ally of Shintaro Kazama, who had Terada serve as a double agent for both him and the ambitious, up-and-coming Tojo-kai boss Akira Nishikiyama. Terada informed Nishikiyama of the disappearance of the Tojo-kai's ¥10 billion stash in December 2005, leading to Nishikiyama bringing up the issue in front of the other patriarchs of the Tojo-kai, creating chaos within the Tojo-kai. Nishikiyama then assassinated Chairman Masaru Sera and attempted to jockey for the chairmanship of the Tojo-kai with Terada's assistance, although Terada secretly continued to work with Kazama, rescuing Haruka Sawamura from Goro Majima's captivity at the Yoshida Batting Center in Kabukicho and telling her of the value of her pendant (which, unbeknownst to Haruka, contained the key to the ¥10 billion); he also instructed her to tell Kazama's pupil Kazuma Kiryu of the pendant's importance. Terada became a triple agent when he also agreed to work with ambitious Shimano-gumi boss Futoshi Shimano, who offered to split the ¥10 billion between himself (¥5 billion), Lau Ka Long of the Snake Flower Triad (¥3 billion), and Terada (¥2 billion) if he became Chairman. However, Terada helped to fend off Shimano's attack on Kazama's hideout at Shibaura Wharf, and he shot Shimano dead after Shimano threw a grenade which killed Kazama; Terada thus avenged both Kazama's death and the massacre of the Jingweon Mafia at Shimano's hands.
Chairman of the Tojo-kai[]
Unfortunately for Terada, the rest of the Omi Alliance decisively committed itself to work with Nishikiyama's political ally Kyohei Jingu in order to take down the Tojo-kai. Following Jingu and Nishikiyama's deaths, Kiryu was briefly appointed Fourth Chairman of the Tojo-kai, only to retire that same day and appoint Terada as Fifth Chairman; Terada's sworn brother Takashima succeeded him as Chief of Omi HQ. Now that his ally Kazama was dead, Terada was able to seek vengeance against the Tojo-kai without hesitation, and, in February 2006, he announced that he was going to recruit a new captain from the patriarch with the most financial contribution to the clan. Akinobu Uematsu was an early frontrunner, but Goro Majima brought in a cart full of money and won. However, Majima did not want the position and warned Terada against underestimating the clan. Terada decided to call off his decision and find a new way to appoint a captain, angering his subordinates, who were offended by his lack of respect for seniority. Shortly after, Ibuchi-gumi boss Kei Ibuchi had Uematsu and his subsidiary family massacred, and he blamed Majima for what transpired; he later shot himself after a tense confrontation with Majima, and Terada apologized for not noticing Ibuchi's ill intent. Ryota Kawamura's murder of an Omi officer during the conflict between Ibuchi and Majima led to a deterioration in Tojo-Omi relations, so Terada was forced to have Majima and his family separate from the Tojo-kai in recompense.
Tojo-Omi War of 2006[]
Over the course of that year, the Tojo-kai and Omi Alliance's relations further deteriorated, as Terada had been the only peacekeeper between the two groups, and he now owed his full allegiance to the Tojo Clan rather than Omi. Terada took advantage of the deterioration in relations to fake his own death while visiting Kiryu at the graves of Nishikiyama and Kazama to seek his advice. His faked death led to Kiryu attempting to seek out peace with the Omi Alliance, which encouraged the hot-headed Ryuji Goda of Omi to try and take over the seemingly-weak Tojo Clan in response.
After Kiryu defeated Goda in a fight at the Kabukicho Hills constructon site, Terada revealed his survival to Kiryu and told Kiryu of how Kiryu's adoptive father Kazama was responsible for the massacre of his former gang. Terada then tried to kill Kiryu, but Kiryu defeated Terada and his men. Ryo Takashima and his men then showed up, but Takashima betrayed Terada and shot him after killing Jin Goda. An unsconscious Ryuji Goda then awoke from his unconsciousness, grabbed Terada's gun, and fatally shot Takashima as Takashima shot him as well; thus, Terada and both of the Godas were killed as a result of Takashima's betrayal, and the Tojo-kai thus survived that year's chaos.
