Yuh-Line Niou

Yuh-Line Niou (born 15 July 1983) was a Democratic member of the New York State Assembly from the 65th district from 1 January 2017, succeeding Alice Cancel.

Biography[]

Niu Yulin was born in Taipei, Taiwan in 1983, and her family emigrated to the United States when she was six months old. She was raised in Moscow, Idaho; El Paso, Texas; and Beaverton, Oregon before moving to New York City in 2010 and becoming chief of staff to State Assemblyman Ron Kim. In 2016, with the backing of the Working Families Party, she defeated Democratic State Assemblywoman Alice Cancel for renomination and came to represent the 65th district, becoming the first Asian-American to represent her 40% Asian district.
