Yorkville

Yorkville is a neighborhood on the Upper East Side of Manhattan, New York City. In 1815, Yorkville was a market garden and a farming area, and a hamlet developed in the Yorkville area during the 1830s when a new railroad was built. By the 1850s, German and Irish immigrants began to dominate the neighborhood, and the neighborhood became known as an affluent German, Hungarian, and Czechoslovakian ethnic enclave during the early 20th century. In 2010, 77,942 people lived in Yorkville, with 76% being whites.
