Yogananda Pittman

Yogananda Pittman was acting chief of the United States Capitol Police from 11 January 2021, succeeding Steven Sund.

Biography[]

Yogananda Pittman joined the United States Capitol Police in Washington DC in 2001, and she was assigned to the US Senate Division before becoming Assistant Chief of Police for Protective and Intelligence Operations. On 11 January 2001, three days after the resignation of police chief Steven Sund following the 2021 United States coup d'etat attempt, Pittman became acting chief, making her the first African-American and first woman to hold that position.
