Yazid ibn Abi Sufyan

Yazid ibn Abi Sufyan (died 640) was a sahabi of Muhammad and a general of the Rashidun Caliphate.

Biography[]

Yazid ibn Abi Sufyan was a son of Abu Sufyan and a brother of Muawiyah I, the first Umayyad caliph. In 634, he was one of four generals sent by Caliph Abu Bakr to conquer Syria from the Byzantine Empire, and he commanded the left wing of the Arab army at the 636 Battle of Yarmouk. Unfortunately, he died of plague in 640, one of the many Aab generals in Syria to fall to illness in 639-640.
