Yar Mohammad Khan

Yar Mohammad Khan (9 September 1920-29 August 1981) was a founder and the treasurer of the Awami League of Bangladesh.

Biography[]

Yar Mohammad Khan was born on 9 September 1920 in Rai Saheb Bazar, Dhaka, Bengal Presidency, British Raj to a Sunni Muslim family of Bengalis. He was one of the founders of the Awami League party in 1947 after Pakistan was formed; Khan served as its treasurer and one of its five leaders during the agitation for independence in the early 1970s. Khan's funding of the party helped it in gaining strength in the newly-independent nation of Bangladesh after the end of the Bangladesh Liberation War of 1971, and he died in Madras, India in 1981 at the age of 60.
