Yang Jun (died 291) was regent of the Jin from 290 to 291 AD and the father of Empress Yang Zhi.
Biography[]
Yang Jun was born in Hongnong Commandery, Wei, the uncle of Yang Yan; he went on to father Yang Zhi. He became an important official under Emperor of Jin Sima Yan, his son-in-law, and he was made regent for his developmentally disabled son Sima Zhong in 290 AD. The Prince of Runan Sima Liang was supposed to serve as co-regent, but Yang Jun intercepted Sima Yan's orders for the Prince to remain in the capital and prevented them from arriving, leading to Sima Liang heading off to his post of Governor of Xuchang without being aware of his orders. Yang Jun then tampered with Emperor Sima Yan's will to exclude Sima Liang, deepening the rivalry. Sima Liang feared for his life so much that he was unable to attend Sima Yan's funeral, lest Yang Jun have him murdered. The Prince of Runan fled to Xuchang and left control to Yang Jun, who - along with his daughter - influenced Sima Zhong and exercised much influence over the court. The emperor's wife Jia Nanfeng began a conspiracy to remove the father and daughter from power, and they recruited the Prince of Chu Sima Wei into their conspiracy. On 5 April 291 AD, Sima Wei's troops entered the capital, and Jia Nanfeng had her husband issue an edict branding Yang Jun a traitor. Sima Wei's troops then defeated Yang Jun's loyalists, executed Yang Jun, and massacred his family.
