Yamagasa-gumi

The Yamagasa-gumi is a Japanese yakuza family based in Fukuoka, Kyushu. The family's footsoldiers were easily identifiable by their bright red tracksuits, and, in 2012, the Yamagasa-gumi's patriarch Tadashi Madarame formed an alliance with the Tojo-kai to counter the hegemony of the Omi Alliance. Madarame helped Tojo-kai chairman Daigo Dojima "disappear" after Daigo discovered that traitors within the Tojo-kai were plotting his death, but the Chief of Tojo HQ Minoru Aoyama reacted by declaring war on the Yamagasa-gumi. Aoyama shot and wounded Madarame during alliance negotiations and bombed the Yamagasa-gumi headquarters, but he failed to kill either Madarame or any of his major officers. Former Tojo-kai chairman Kazuma Kiryu, who was working as a taxi driver in Fukuoka and was dating Madarame's daughter Mayumi Madarame, persuaded Tadashi Madarame not to surrender Fukuoka to the Tojo, and Kiryu led the Yamagasa-gumi to victory over Aoyama and his loyalists at the Fukuoka docks, only for Aoyama to be assassinated by Yu Morinaga before he could reveal who persuaded him to betray Dojima. The Yamagasa-gumi, Kitakata-gumi, and Watase-gumi later joined forces to come to the Tojo-kai's aid in Tokyo, repelling the Kuroha-gumi's assault on the city and preventing the Omi Alliance from taking control of Japan's criminal underworld.
