Yakov Zevin

Yakov Zevin (1888-20 September 1918) was a Bolshevik revolutionary who was one of the 26 Baku Commissars.

Biography[]

Yakov Davidovich Zevin was born in 1888 in Krasnopolsky, Russian Empire (present-day Krasnapolle, Mahilyow Voblast, Belarus) to a Belarusian Jewish family. Zevin joined the Mensheviks in 1904, but he later defected to the Bolsheviks in 1912 and became a member of the Bolshevik party in Baku, Azerbaijan. From 1917 to 1918, he was one of the ruling 26 Baku Commissars in the city of Baku, but he was captured by the British Army and executed by firing squad while attempting to flee from the falling city.
