The XXXXVIII Panzer Corps was a panzer corps of the German Wehrmacht that existed from 15 December 1940 to 8 May 1945. The corps was formed in Germany, and it took part in Operation Barbarossa in 1941. The corps took part in the fighting at Brody, Berdichev, and Kirovgrad, and the corps also executed the Commissar Order, killing captured Soviet Red Army commissars. The corps was trapped and destroyed at the Battle of Stalingrad, but it was later reformed and sent to fight at the Third Battle of Kharkov and the Battle of Kursk. By February 1945, the division had withdrawn into Silesia, and it surrendered to the Soviets on the Elbe River in May 1945.
