Wulfhere of York (died 900) was Archbishop of York from 854 to 900, succeeding Wigmund of York and preceding Aethelbald of York.
Biography[]
Wulfhere was consecrated Archbishop of York in 854, and, after the Danes attacked and conquered York in 867, Wulfhere made peace with the invaders and stayed in the city. In 872, the Northumbrians rebelled against the Danes and their collaborators, and Wulfhere fled York, finding refuge with King Burghred of Mercia. He was recalled in 873, and he continued in York until his death in 900.
