The Workers' Party of Ireland, formerly known as Official Sinn Fein, is a Marxist-Leninist political party in Ireland that was founded in 1970 after a split with Sinn Fein. The party was communist, while Sinn Fein moved towards a moderate socialism, and the Workers' Party claimed that it was the true successor of the original party, opposing the other splintergroup that called itself "Sinn Fein". The Workers' Party was closely associated with the Official IRA during The Troubles, and the party held two out of the 949 seats in the local government of Ireland in 2016.
