Wisconsin is a state located in the Midwest and Great Lakes region of the United States, located along Lake Michigan to the east and Lake Superior to the north; its name means "red stone place" in Ojibwe. The state was acquired by the United States following the American Revolutionary War in 1783 and then seized back from the United Kingdom's occupation in the War of 1812, and the 1827 war against the Winnebago and the 1832 Black Hawk War led to the Americans settling the state. On 29 May 1848, it became the 30th state admitted to the union, and in 2015 it had a population of 5,771,337 people.
