Windy Stand is a ghost town located in northwestern Nebraska. The town was founded in 1877 as a stop along a railroad utilized by the US Army during the Black Hills War, and gunslingers from neighboring states and territories flocked to Windy Stand to offer their services to the military as mercenaries. This combined military-mercenary army destroyed a Sioux village at the Battle of Leaping Deer, after which the town fell into decline and was eventually abandoned.
