William Walton Kitchin

William Walton Kitchin (9 October 1866-9 November 1924) was a member of the US House of Representatives (D-NC 5) from 4 March 1897 to 11 January 1909 (succeeding Thomas Settle III and preceding John Motley Morehead II) and Governor of North Carolina from 12 January 1909 to 15 January 1913 (succeeding Robert Broadnax Glenn and preceding Locke Craig).

Biography[]

William Walton Kitchin was born in Scotland Neck, North Carolina in 1866, the son of William H. Kitchin and the uncle of Alvin Paul Kitchin. He practiced law in Roxboro before serving in the US House of Representatives from 1897 to 1909; during his term, he participated in the Wilmington insurrection of 1898 and the disenfranchisement of all Black voters in 1900. He served as Governor from 1909 to 1913, after which he practiced law in Raleigh, and he died in 1924.
