William Wolcott Ellsworth (10 November 1791-15 January 1868) was a member of the US House of Representatives (NR-CN) from 4 March 1829 to 8 July 1834 (succeeding David Plant and preceding Joseph Trumbull) and the Whig Governor of Connecticut from 2 May 1838 to 4 March 1842 (succeeding Henry W. Edwards and preceding Chauncey Fitch Cleveland).

Biography[]

William Wolcott Ellsworth was born in Windsor, Connecticut in 1791, the son of Oliver Ellsworth and the son-in-law of Noah Webster. He became a lawyer in 1811 and a professor at Trinity College in 1827, and he served in the US House of Representatives from 1829 to 1834, as Governor from 1838 to 1842, and as a judge of the Connecticut Supreme Court from 1847 to 1861. He died in Hartford in 1868.
