
William Shepard (1 December 1737 – 16 November 1817) was a member of the US House of Representatives (F-MA 2) from 4 March 1797 to 3 March 1803, succeeding William Lyman and preceding Jacob Crowninshield.
Biography[]
William Shepard was born in Westfield, Massachusetts in 1737, and he served in the French and Indian War before serving as colonel of the 6th Massachusetts Regiment during the American Revolutionary War. He went on to serve in the State House from 1785 to 1786, and, as a Major-General in the state militia, he protected the Springfield Armory during Shays' Rebellion. Shepard then served on the Governor's Council from 1792 to 1796 and in the US House of Representatives from 1797 to 1803, and he died in 1817.
