William Schley

William Schley (15 December 1786-20 November 1858) was a member of the US House of Representatives (D-GA AL) from 4 March 1833 to 1 July 1835 (succeeding Henry Graybill Lamar and preceding Jesse Franklin Cleveland) and the Democratic Governor of Georgia from 4 November 1835 to 8 November 1837 (succeeding Wilson Lumpkin and preceding George Rockingham Gilmer).

Biography[]

William Schley was born in Frederick, Maryland in 1786, and he was raised in Louisville and Augusta, Georgia. He practiced law in Augusta before serving as a judge from 1825 to 1828, in the State House in 1830, in the US House of Representatives from 1833 to 1835, and as Governor from 1835 to 1837. He died in 1858.
