William Savin Fulton (2 June 1795 – 15 August 1844) was Governor of the Arkansas Territory (D) from 9 March 1835 to 15 June 1836, succeeding John Pope and preceding James Sevier Conway, and a US Senator from Arkansas from 18 September 1836 to 15 August 1844, preceding Chester Ashley.
Biography[]
William Savin Fulton was born in Cecil County, Maryland in 1795, and he served in the US Army volunteers during the War of 1812 and as secretary to Andrew Jackson during the First Seminole War. He was admitted to the bar in Gallatin, Tennessee in 1817, and he settled in Florence, Alabama in 1820 and became a county judge in 1822. In 1829, President Jackson appointed Fulton Secretary of the Arkansas Territory, and he served as Governor from 1835 to 1836. In 1836, Fulton became one of Arkansas' inaugural US Senators, serving until his death in 1844.
