1st Sergeant William S. Evans (21 July 1910-6 July 1944) was a US Army soldier who served in Easy Company, 2nd Battalion, US 506th Infantry Regiment during World War II.
Biography[]
William S. Evans was born in Houston, Texas in 1910, and he worked in the war industry before enlisting in the US Army airborne troops on 19 August 1942, seeking to spare his brothers (both young fathers) from being drafted. He worked with headquarters as Easy Company commander Herbert Sobel's First Sergeant, and Evans and the new company commander Thomas Meehan were both killed when their plane was shot down by the Germans during Operation Overlord on 6 June 1944.
