William Segar Archer (5 March 1789 – 28 March 1855) was a member of the US House of Representatives (DR-VA 17) from 3 January 1820 to 4 March 1823 (succeeding James Pleasants and preceding Jared Williams) and from VA 3 from 4 March 1823 to 4 March 1835 (succeeding Williams and preceding John Winston Jones), and a US Senator (W) from 4 March 1841 to 4 March 1847 (succeeding William H. Roane and preceding Robert M.T. Hunter).
Biography[]
William Segar Archer was born in Amelia County, Virginia in 1789, and he became a lawyer in 1810. He served in the House of Delegates from 1812 to 1819, in the US House of Representatives from 1820 to 1835, and in the US Senate from 1841 to 1847. He exerted great influence over the Missouri Compromise during his time in office. He died in 1855.
