
William McWillie (17 November 1795-3 March 1869) was a member of the US House of Representatives (D-MS 3) from 3 December 1849 to 3 March 1851 (succeeding Patrick W. Tompkins and preceding John D. Freeman) and Governor of Mississippi from 16 November 1857 to 21 November 1859 (succeeding John J. McRae and preceding John J. Pettus).
Biography[]
William McWillie was born in Liberty Hill, South Carolina in 1795, and he served under his father during the War of 1812 before becoming a lawyer in 1818. He served in the State House from 1836 to 1840, and he moved to Mississippi in 1845 and served in the US House of Representatives from 1849 to 1851 and as Governor from 1857 to 1859. He died in 1869.
