
William McAdoo (25 October 1853-7 June 1930) was a member of the US House of Representatives (D-NJ 7) from 4 March 1883 to 3 March 1891, succeeding Augustus Albert Hardenbergh and preceding Edward F. McDonald.
Biography[]
William McAdoo was born in Ramelton, County Donegal, Ireland in 1853, and he emigrated to Jersey City in 1865. He practiced law in Jersey City before becoming a newspaper reporter, and he served in the General Assembly in 1882 and in the US House of Representatives from 1883 to 1891. McAdoo moved to New York City in 1892 and served as Assistant Secretary of the Navy from 1893 to 1897 and as New York City Police Commissioner from 1904 to 1906, and he died in 1930.
