William Leslie (8 August 1751-3 January 1777) was a Captain in the British Army during the American Revolutionary War.
Biography[]
William Leslie was born in Fife, Scotland in 1751, the son of David Leslie, 6th Earl of Leven and the nephew of General Alexander Leslie. He joined the British Army in 1771 and rose to the rank of Captain in 1776, the year when he was shipped to New York City as one of 32,000 British and Hessian troops. He fought at Long Island and Fort Washington, and he was mortally wounded at the Battle of Princeton in January 1777. Leslie's old friend Benjamin Rush ensured that George Washington had Leslie given a military funeral and buried in Pluckemin, New Jersey.
