
William Kingston (1476-14 September 1540) was the Constable of the Tower of London from 1524 to 1540, succeeding Thomas Lovell and preceding John Gage.
Biography[]
William Kingston was born in Painswick, Gloucestershire, England in 1476, and he served as a yeoman of the guard before 1509. In 1512, he was an under-marshal in the army, and he served on the Spanish coast and at the Battle of Flodden. From 1514 to 1515, he served as High Sheriff of Gloucestershire, and he served under Charles Brandon, 1st Duke of Suffolk during his campaign in France during the Italian War of 1521-26. From 1524 to 1540, Kingston served as Constable of the Tower of London, and he also served as a Member of Parliament for Gloucestershire. He died in Painswick in 1540.
