William Hawkins (10 October 1777-17 May 1819) was the Democratic-Republican Governor of North Carolina from 11 December 1811 to 29 November 1814, succeeding Benjamin Smith and preceding William Miller.
Biography[]
William Hawkins was born in Middleburg, North Carolina in 1777, and he served as an Indian agent to the Muscogee of Georgia before serving in the House of Commons from 1804 to 1811 and as Governor from 1811 to 1814. He raised a volunteer militia of 7,000 troops for the War of 1812.
