
William Hawi (5 September 1908 – 13 July 1976) was the security director of the Kataeb Party during the early stages of the Lebanese Civil War.
Biography[]
William Hawi was born on 5 September 1908 in New York City, United States to a family of Orthodox Christian Lebanese immigrants. However, his family returned to Lebanon when he was just two, and in 1937 he joined the Kataeb Party after meeting Pierre Gemayel. Hawi led the organized security effort of the Kataeb Party during the national struggle against France after World War II, and when the Lebanese Civil War started in 1975, Hawi helped in forming the Lebanese Forces to fight against the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) and the other Palestinian factions. He fought against the Palestinians in the "Battle of the Hotels" in 1976, and he was killed by a sniper in Tel al-Zaatar, Beirut on 13 July 1976.
