William H. Wells

William Hill Wells (7 January 1769-11 March 1829) was a US Senator from Delaware from 17 January 1799 to 6 November 1804 (succeeding Joshua Clayton and preceding James A. Bayard) and from 28 May 1813 to 3 March 1817 (succeeding Bayard and preceding Nicholas Van Dyke. He was a member of the Federalist Party.

Biography[]

William Hill Wells was born in Burlington, New Jersey in 1769, and he became a lawyer in 1791. He represented Sussex County for several years in the Delaware General Assembly, and he was elected as a Federalist Party member to the US Senate in 1799 following the death of Joshua Clayton. He served until 1804, and he served again from 1813 to 1817. He died in 1829.
