
William Gaston Steele (17 December 1820-22 April 1892) was a member of the US House of Representatives (D-NJ 3) from 4 March 1861 to 3 March 1865, succeeding Garnett Adrain and preceding Charles Sitgreaves.
Biography[]
William Gaston Steele was born in Somerville, Somerset County, New Jersey in 1820, and he engaged in banking before entering politics as a Democrat. He served in the US House of Representatives from 1861 to 1865, and he voted against the Thirteenth Amendment. He engaged in the brokerage business after leaving the US Congress, and he died in 1892.
