William F. Quinn

William Francis Quinn (13 July 1919-28 August 2006) was the Republican Territorial Governor of Hawaii from 29 August 1957 to 21 August 1959 (succeeding Samuel Wilder King) and Governor from 21 August 1959 to 3 December 1962 (preceding John A. Burns).

Biography[]

William Francis Quinn was born in Rochester, New York in 1919, and he was raised in St. Louis, Missouri. He served in naval intelligence during World War II before settling permanently in Honolulu, Hawaii and becoming a lawyer. He became involved in state politics before serving as territorial governor from 1957 to 1959 and as Hawaii's first statehood-era governor from 1959 to 1962. He was defeated by Democrat John A. Burns in a rematch of the 1959 gubernatorial election and failed in his 1976 US Senate bid. He died in Honolulu in 2006.
