William Campbell Preston (27 November 1794-22 May 1860) was a US Senator from South Carolina (N) from 26 November 1833 to 29 November 1842, succeeding Stephen Decatur Miller and preceding George McDuffie.
Biography[]
William Campbell Preston was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 1794, and he went on a trip to Europe before becoming a lawyer in Virginia in 1820. He moved to Columbia, South Carolina in 1822, and he served in the State House of Representatives from 1828 to 1833 and then in the US Senate from 1833 to 1842. He was a Nullifier Party until 1837, when he joined the Whig party, and he resigned in 1842. He then served as President of South Carolina College from 1845 to 1851, and he died in 1860.
