
William Channing Gibbs (10 February 1787-21 February 1871) was the Democratic-Republican Governor of Rhode Island from 2 May 1821 to 5 May 1824, succeeding Nehemiah R. Knight and preceding James Fenner.
Biography[]
William Channing Gibbs was born in Newport, Rhode Island in 1787. He rose to the rank of Major-General in the state militia, and he served in the State House from 1816 to 1820 and as Governor from 1821 to 1824. He died in 1871 at age 84.
