
William Bonnifield (14 September 1814-18 November 1875) was the Democratic Mayor of Kansas City from 1863 to 1865, succeeding Milton J. Payne and preceding Robert T. Van Horn.
Biography[]
William Bonnifield was born in Randolph County, Virginia in 1814, and he moved to Iowa in 1836 and to Kansas City in 1860. He was elected Postmaster of Lockridge, Iowa in 1843 and Mayor of Kansas City from 1863 to 1865, serving as a unionist and anti-slavery Democrat. After leaving office, he mined in the Running Creek, Colorado area, and he died in Denver in 1875.
