William Bebb

William Bebb (8 December 1802-23 October 1873) was the Whig Governor of Ohio from 12 December 1846 to 22 January 1849, succeeding Mordecai Bartley and preceding Seabury Ford.

Biography[]

William Bebb was born in Shandon, Ohio in 1802 to Welsh immigrant parents. He became a lawyer in 1831 and campaigned for Whig presidential candidates William Henry Harrison in 1840 and Henry Clay in 1844, serving as a Clay presidential elector in 1844. He went on to serve as Governor from 1846 to 1849, after which he served as a pension office examiner under President Abraham Lincoln. He died at his farm in Rockford, Illinois in 1873.
