
William Badger (13 January 1779-21 September 1852) was the Democratic Governor of New Hampshire from 5 June 1834 to 2 June 1836, succeeding Samuel Dinsmoor and preceding Isaac Hill.
Biography[]
William Badger was born in Gilmanton, New Hampshire in 1779, and he built a cotton cloth factory, a saw mill, and a grist mill for his town. He went on to serve in the State House from 1810 to 1812, in the State Senate from 1816 to 1817, and as Governor from 1834 to 1836. He called for the elimination of capital punishment, bringing smallpox prevention to small farming towns, and the elimination of the National Bank. He died in 1852.
