
William Adams Palmer (12 September 1781 – 3 December 1860) was a US Senator from Vermont from 20 October 1818 to 3 March 1825 (succeeding James Fisk and preceding Dudley Chase) and Governor from 18 October 1831 to 2 November 1835 (succeeding Samuel C. Crafts and preceding Silas H. Jennison). He was a Democratic-Republican, a National Republican, and an Anti-Mason.
Biography[]
William Adams Palmer was born in Hebron, Connecticut, and he studied law in Chelsea, Vermont. He served as a probate judge of Caledonia County from 1807 to 1808 and from 1811 to 1817, as well as a member of the Virginia House of Representatives from 1811 to 1812 and again in 1818. That year, he was elected to the US Senate to finish James Fisk's term, and he won re-election, serving until 1825. He went on to serve as Governor from 1831 to 1835, serving as a member of the National Republican and Anti-Mason parties. He died in 1860.
