William Andrew Jackson Sparks (19 November 1828-7 May 1904) was a member of the US House of Representatives (D-IL 16) from 4 March 1876 to 3 March 1883, succeeding James S. Martin and preceding Aaron Shaw.
Biography[]
William Andrew Jackson Sparks was born in New Albany, Indiana in 1828, and he was raised in Illinois, becoming a lawyer in Carlyle in 1851. He served as United States land receiver for the Edwardsville land office from 1853 to 1856, in the State House from 1856 to 1857, in the State Senate from 1863 to 1864, as a delegate to the 1868 Democratic National Convention, in the US House of Representatives from 1876 to 1883, Commissioner of the United States General Land Office from 1885 to 1888, and as a lawyer until his death in 1904.
