Wilburn A. Hood

Wilburn Alexander Hood (2 June 1802 – 19 August 1845) was a politician of the Republic of Texas and a member of the Texas Senate as a Texian Democratic Party member.

Biography[]

Wilburn Alexander Hood was born in Manning, South Carolina in 1802 to a Dixie family, and he became a lawyer in his home state. In 1830, he decided to move to Texas to become a plantation owner, trying his luck at becoming a planter. Hood became a leader of the Texian settlers during their struggle for independence against Mexico, and he was elected to the Texas Senate as a member of the Texian Democratic Party. Hood supported a free economy and an aggressive foreign policy, but he disagreed with the party's anti-slavery views. Hood died of typhus in 1845.
