Wigferth Challender

Wigferth Challender (827-) was a Mercian Roman Catholic priest who lived in Ancaster during the late 9th century AD. In 875 AD, he was caught up in the Battle of Ancaster as Ealdorman Hunwald of Lincolnshire's army stormed the rebellious town, occupied by Bishop Herefrith of Lincoln's forces, and Wigferth pointed Eivor to Herefrith's location in the chapel, calling Herefrith a "scabrous coward".
