Wichmann the Elder (900-23 April 944) was Count of Hadeln from 936 to 944.
Biography[]
Wichmann the Elder was born in 900, the son of Billung and a brother of Amelung of Verden and Hermann Billung. He became Count of Hadeln in 936, and, in 938, he, Eberhard of Franconia, and Thankmar rebelled against Otto the Great after Wichmann was passed over by his younger brother Hermann for a military position. His rebellion was quelled, and he reconciled with Otto in 941 and died in 944.
