White Horse Rapids

The White Horse Rapids were rapids on the Yukon River in Yukon, Canada that proved a major navigational obstacle on the Yukon Trail during the Klondike Gold Rush. The rapids were named for their white-capped waves, which reminded the navigators of the white manes of horses. From 1957 to 1958, a dam was built to submerge the rapids beneath Schwatka Lake.
