West Texas was a region of the Confederate States during the American Civil War. Located in the western parts of the US state of Texas, the region had its capital at Midland. It was one of the regions that provided Texas Volunteers during the Civil War, and was relatively untouched during the civil war. Edmund Kirby Smith surrendered Texas in May 1865 to the Union States.
